Paleontology Research Laboratory Renovation
Project Summary
The University of Chicago needed a new research and office space for internationally renowned paleontologist, Dr. Xhe-Xi Luo, that would accommodate changes in his research, student team, and their research disciplines. Bailey Edward reconfigured an existing 1,200 sq. ft. of wet laboratory space into a dry laboratory with support office space and work area to be used for specimen analysis, documentation and archiving for paleontology research.
The equipment, technology and furniture within the laboratory allow for the diverse research focusing on the origins and earliest evolution of mammals. The flexible laboratory space has allowed Dr. Luo and his student team to advance their fields of study. The Luo Lab’s work has been published in multiple scientific research journals since moving into the space.

They (UCM) are happy with the design. Bailey Edward was efficient with information and addressed issues quickly.
Flexibility
Since Dr. Luo’s field of expertise encompasses all early mammals, his workspace needed to adapt for specimen analysis, documentation, and archiving of paleontology research. As part of this conversion, Bailey Edward installed specialty laboratory systems in this space including snorkel exhaust, audio-visual, lighting and mechanical systems.
