Axelrod Institute of Politics Office
Project Summary
Serving as an outlet for students at the University of Chicago who wish to pursue opportunities and careers in both public and social service, this adaptive re-use design of a 1900’s era home provides a sophisticated business environment alongside education. By creating a multitude of flexible spaces and a contemporary aesthetic within the historic fabric, the facility is host to political officials, policy makers, journalists, strategists, and policy advisors who demand an atypical education environment.
With the ability to do live video interviews and presentations, the Institute had hosted internationally renowned speakers including President Joe Biden, Senator John McCain, and historian Doris Kearns Goodwin The whole facility upgrade includes a new four-stop elevator, new MEP systems, ADA upgrades, new storage areas and warming kitchen. Accessibility upgrades include a ramp at the front of the building and a stair enclosure at the rear of the building that services all floor levels.
