Atkins Tennis Center
Project Summary
To showcase the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s commitment to high athletic standards and current student athletes in the sport of Tennis, Bailey Edward determined the feasibility of modifications and expansions of the Atkins Tennis Center. We then designed and oversaw construction of twelve outdoor tennis courts with spectator seating for over 2,000, locker rooms, therapy/injury spaces, storage, pro-shop, offices, public restrooms, as well as additional indoor spectator seating for over 300 at both court and second floor levels of the existing facility. The completed tennis courts and their amenities provide UIUC with a world-class tennis venue capable of hosting NCAA Championship tournaments.
Site improvements also included a new access road, parking lot, ADA ramp, vehicular drop-off area, and re-routing of major utilities servicing the south athletic campus. The parking lot was equipped with new lighting and existing HVAC. Plumbing and electrical systems were augmented to accommodate the new demands of the addition.

The modifications developed by Bailey Edward extended to areas not only for spectators, such as public restrooms, concessions and a hall of fame gallery, but also to areas for athletes such as locker rooms and therapy and injury treatment spaces. Offices and a press box completed the needs applicable to all facility users.
