Worship Center

Project Summary

With a new auditorium and performing arts center amenities, The Compass Church can better serve its growing congregation of over 5,000 with routine services to Christian rock concerts. A catwalk, back stage space, three large viewing screens, fully integrated audio system, and a large stage area equipped with rigging make it an ideal venue for theatrical performances. The facility is one of the Evangelical community’s top performing spaces thanks to its audio-visual capabilities and acoustic performance.

Bailey Edward performed both a master plan to expand administrative and office spaces and design of the 1,525 seat, 45,000 sf worship center. Phase I of the master plan outlined the remodeling the existing administrative offices, a small conference area, the library, public corridors, and the existing worship space, including specialty engineering for lighting, acoustics, and audio-video. In future phases, the master plan calls for a 50, 000 sf addition to include a gymnasium and fellowship hall, classroom spaces, as well as additional parking and water retention.

The increasing number of events and soaring attendance is proof of the success of the additions design. Enhanced spirituality is found in abundance throughout the facility due to the sweep of structural and performance elements that blend in a harmonious way.

Contextual Design

The sloping roof of the existing structure was enhanced and highlighted in Bailey Edwards design solution by the use of a contrasting sloped roof on the addition. The curved theme is reinterpreted further in the corridors that eclipse the worship center providing a smooth transition and large, visually inviting light-filled multi-use gathering space.
